I went to start again and the starter motor appeared to be no longer engaging. My starter spins, but it doesnt catch with the flywheel. If this was a laptop that was last serviced by a third party, and they replaced the laptop with a different model or replaced any components causing. I removed the starter and hooked it to a battery with jumper cables and it spins fine but when i checked the direction that the slip gear in the engine engages i realized that the starter is just free spinning that gear when it tries to start. I was on my way to work this morning in my 1980 pickup and i noticed my charge if the starter plunger was stuck, it was constantly draining the battery, but also i added a lot to my previous post. The chance of spinning seems random, it happens instantly when trying to start or after a few cranks of the engine. I have never had the starter apart, so i dont think it could magically start spinning the wrong way. Nothing else wrong, just the starter spins (clearly heard) without engaging anything.
